My focus on this piece was not on color as it was in my previous works. Instead, my intent was to play with line, light, and shadow. The woman depicted is laying down on a mirror, staring at her own reflection. The curve of her body creates deep, sweeping folds in her clothing. I allowed these lines to flow into the highlights cause by the reflection of light off the mirror onto her body. This creates fluid movement between the figure, the reflection, and the background.
I worked on a majority this piece on a moving bus. With the constant instability, I had to let go of any idea of a straight line. This forced me to be more relaxed than I had been with any other work. It also inspired me to include an abstract background rather than the solid one I intended on using.
