I’m quite happy with this piece, enjoying the contrast between the skin’s warm hues and the cooler purple of the chair. Being my second study of the human body in oils, I remember being hesitant about the composition. Having never painted a frontal view, I wondered if the image could come off as wrong or indecent and debated scrapping the layout. Fortunately, I can be a bit stubborn and refused to surrender my composition. Having opted to disregard my worries, I enjoyed making this painting. The human figure is my preferred subject of study and I had fun facing the challenge of painting skin. Though a smooth surface, I was able to use varied brushstrokes to create texture and give energy to the still and seated figure.
